
If there is anything confidential on your computer desktop that you would not want these individuals to see, you should remove or close it before you click the "Share" button. After clicking on "Share", your advisor and anyone else you may have invited into your Google Hangout will be able to see your computer desktop. A screen shot of what this looks like is below. Click on the green arrow in the upper left hand corner of your screen, entitled “Screenshare”, to make your screen visible. Now if the purpose of the Google Hangout was so your Student Advisor or tech support can see your screen, there are a couple of additional steps you will need to go through. You should now be in a Hangout with the person who sent you the invitation.

The second way is if you already have your student email open in G-Life, you can access Google Hangouts from the Google Application Palette. The first way would be by typing the following URL in your Chrome Browswer. Once the extension is installed, you can participate in a Hangout or start a Hangout in one of two ways. If you don’t have Chrome installed, visit to download the most current version of the Chrome browser. Google Hangouts requires the use of the free Chrome web browser and the Hangouts Chrome Extension. and is available for free to our students.

This tool is part of the Google suite of applications that includes Google Mail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc. When the need arises, the advisor may use Google Hangouts as a viewing option for your desktop. There may be times during a support session when a Student Advisor or technician needs to see what is going on with your desktop environment in order to try to assist you.
